Hyderabad, (Sind) founded in 1768 by Ghulam Shah, was the capital
of Sindh until it fell to the British in 1843 after the battle
of Miani six miles north of the city.

Photographs of the old city of Hyderabad are extremely rare.
The triangular structures on the rooftops are wind catchers
called ‘Manghas’

Unveiling
ceremony of statue of Rai Bahadur Udhadas Tarachand who built RBUT civil
hospital in Shikarpur.
A great service
for the mankind never done before by any Shikarpuri.
After
completion of the hospital, this great man asked the mason to write his name on
the stairs so that it comes under the shoes of the patients.
His statue
is now kept at Institute of Sindhology Hyderabad Sindh. We still salute Great
Rai Bahadur and remember him as angel of Shikarpur.

Hemu Kalani was a Sindhi Freedom Fighter. He was underage
at the time of hanging but, despite that he was hanged which was deviation
of law and an inhuman act by the British Empire. His mother insisted upon
him to appeal for amnesty and disclose the names of his friends in order to
save his life but this brave son of soil refused to do so and chose death to
amnesty. When his last will was asked, he asked the duty staff to state
slogans. Since it was his last will and it was mandatory to fulfill it
therefore, they replied his slogans "Azaadi Zindabad"...
It is important that we remember from time to time the sacrifices made for
our freedom...We were/are Indians, not Sindhis, Hindus, Muslims, Gujaratis,
Marathis...

BrahmaKumaris offer aid in Shikarpur during major floods in Pakistan
August 2010
BK Usha
Bhavser arrived
Shikarpur from
Karachi
and stayed 12 days. During her stay she visited flooded areas
through vehicles, boat and by foot. She met dozens of families
and encouraged them to face the worst situation. She organised many
satsangs and addressed the women of Shikarpur on self
development and spirituality.
Intellectuals of Shikarpur met her and appreciated her work
for the suffering humanity.
Sister Usha distributed food hampers among the flood
victims. She went from door to door during nights and
darkness and provided food to hundreds of families. She
also donated for the biggest medical camp where thousands of
gastro patients were treated and it is still running. She
spent time with the families who have migrated from villages
and are living a very miserable life and showed solidarity
with them. The people of Shikarpur were amzed to see a lady
in white sari working and encouraging people day and night,
wiping their tears and spreading smiles on their faces.
He
love and work in the days of history's worst disaster would
never be forgotten. She will be remembered as an angel by
the people of Shikarpur.
Best
regards,
Dr. Amir
