The Language of
Festivals and Beliefs
I had my early
education in Spain.
Born and brought up in a predominantly western atmosphere, I grew up totally westernized
in my thoughts and outlook.
On my return to India to complete my studies, I was shocked that the majority of
people here, with whom I came in contact had little or no knowledge of the
significance of Hindu Festivals and Beliefs. The people would enjoy them, and practice
them mechanically but would not go into their 'why and wherefore'.
I read and attended discourses by learned people and realized that each belief,
ritual and festival had scientific, logical and historic/legendary explanation.
I present to you 'The Language of Festivals and Beliefs' which hopefully will
disperse the darkness which has clouded the customs, beliefs and festivals,
which have been handed down to us, and restore them to their pristine beauty in
the mind of the reader.
Mark Twain
has stated there are 365 days in a year but India has 366 festivals.
Osho
states:
The truth is that
existence wants your life to become a festival...because when you are unhappy,
you also throw unhappiness all around.
